There were rumors earlier but now it’s confirmed that Google is about to acquire Digg for around $200 million. Google was experimenting with digg like search interface since 2007. And now with acquisition of Digg it will be lot more easy for google to digg up the facts they were experimenting for.

According to VentureBeat this was possible only because there are powerful competitors for Digg like Yahoo! Buzz and Propeller by AOL in the present market. This may be true however its very easy for any one to create a clone similar to digg. So why would Google go for such acquisition?

The answer is simple, GOOGLE is the POWERFUL internet giant and never wants to stay behind in any race. Google has got extra dollars to throw away just for experimenting with &%^*$^&$*.

I agree google is powerful, but their share begins to drop in recent weeks. This type of purchases might help or might not. I think, Google won't spend $200m for Digg. This is my personal opinion.
